As a kid, I loved all the sparkle, food, and fanfare of the fireworks during July 4th celebrations. As an adult I’d gotten away from making a big deal out of it. My family I would normally use the time to reallllly relax or get away.
With all the couch surfing and “forced chill time” of the past two years, this year I decided to create a new tradition for what has been a nontraditional holiday for me. I invited a few close friends to my home for a chill time of good food and great conversation.
With all the house hopping and BBQ we tend to do during the summer I was determined to feed them anything BUT more grilled and charred anything. I kept it simple with a shrimp/sausage linguine, bread knots, wine and a small cake topped with fresh strawberries. We often create memories around a good meal and this one is no different. In the relaxed setting we got to catch up with one another’s lives, come up good ideas for a joint venture and soak in the much-needed girl time.
I am looking forward to revisiting some other holiday’s a perhaps putting a different spin how I engage them.
What are some interesting ways you and yours have revamped holiday gatherings?
